Elevate Kids’, (EK) a non-profit organization created by Intermountain Adventist Academy (IAA) board chairman, Doug McCaw II, and his wife, Melinda, raised $14,000 for the community from the Fun Run fundraiser held on April 10, 2022 in Grand Junction. The funds were divided equally between the IAA (for expansion to grades 9 and 10 next fall) and KidsAid (the backpack-for-kids program that feeds hungry children).
Elevate Kids’ goal is to “help kids one step at a time”. Their first fundraiser was a documentary, “Chasing the Sky”, capturing the McCaw’s 490-mile, 18-day run on the Colorado Trail in July, 2020. The film was seen in local theaters by hundreds of people in the community, with proceeds going to Intermountain Adventist Academy and Kids Aid, and is now available for purchase at www.elevatekids.org.
The second fundraiser, (the Fun Run on April 10), was a huge success, with 255 registrants participating in a timed run with options for a 2.5K, a 5K or a 10K race, and supported by many local sponsors and volunteers. (Note: the Second Annual Fun Run is already scheduled for April 16, 2023.)
EK’s next fundraising event is scheduled for July, 2023, when the McCaw’s will again run the Colorado Trail, setting out to break the “fastest known time”, in approximately 7 days. Another documentary will be created, “Chasing the Sky Again”, with proceeds going to the two kids’ organizations listed above. Sponsors and volunteers have an opportunity to be involved in future fundraisers. Contact [email protected] to learn more and get on the mailing list.
